Lund Cathedral - Lunds Domkyrka

The big landmark here in Lund is the cathedral.  No blog about Lund would be complete without a post dedicated to the cathedral.  Building began on what is the current cathedral in 1085 but it has gone through many updates since then.

Inside there is an astronomical clock installed in 1424.  Twice a day as it chimes the hour the clock animates and wooden figures move while music plays.

There is a local legend that a giant named Finn placed a bet with the bishop that he could finish building the cathedral before the bishop could find out Finn's name.  Finn was almost done building when the bishop overheard Finn's wife signing a lullaby to their son.  The song included Finn's name.  Finn was so angry the bishop had discovered his name, he and his wife each climbed a pillar to pull the cathedral down.  Just in time, daylight shrank them and turned them to stone so the cathedral remains standing.

Down in the crypt there are two figures carved into separate pillars.  First, Finn the Giant in the crypt with some weirdly incongruous art on the wall:
