On our final day in Germany, W was all done with his conference.
We headed into Hamburg to visit Miniatur Wunderland.
Miniatur Wunderland is in the top few floors of an old warehouse. After hiking up several flights of stairs we entered the museum and toured room after room of tiny towns. The museum is set up by country and each room depicts a different part of the world - well, mostly Europe and the USA. Everything functions - trains travel through tunnels and around the towns, Ferris wheels turn and even a UFO flies through the night. And the best part of the exhibit is that every 15 minutes or so day turns to night - so you can watch each town light up at dusk. Then you can peek in windows and see what is going on inside the buildings.

There were fun details everywhere.

It was a mish mash of Miami and Vegas style scenes with a space shuttle and a tornado
thrown in for a good authentic American feel.
The trains run under the floor from one exhibit to the other.
This was a highlight for S. She waited and when a train came by she'd jump on it.

We were so excited to see the mini car in miniature! Oh joy!

Planes actually take off here.
At take-off they disappear through the trap door at the end of the runway.
Then they reappear to land from a trap door at the other end of the runway.
This plane was on fire so every few minutes sirens would start up
and fire trucks would race across the airport to put it out.
There were quite a few risque details around. We were peeking in the windows of one building when S said "Look! A doctor's office!" It would be closer to say that the figures were playing doctor, but I didn't explain that to her. On one mountainside there is an artist painting a naked subject. And then this one, below. This woman seems to have lost her pants. Maybe they're in the trunk of the car? As she looks for them, two monks hide behind a tree and watch her.
